Next Thursday September 6 from 1:30 – 4:30, and pizza will be provided again!

I will be giving a presentation about Ext.nd and hopefully walking through an example of actually converting a simple application over to the web. If you’re in the central Ohio area I suggest clearing that afternoon and dropping by :) .

There will be two other presentations on mobile workflow, and some info about upcoming developer tools from Bill Swatling (Workplace Portal Lotus Collaboration Tools Program Manager).

Head on over to the Ext forums to grab a copy.

New in this release are action bars that convert nicely into Ext toolbars with existing javascript actions preserved. Also there’s support for single category views that are nice and easy to embed on a page or form, and you can choose to have it with or without a ComboBox. With a ComboBox gives you a drop down in the toolbar that filters the category that the view is displaying. A big thanks goes out to Jack Ratcliff for really cranking away and adding a lot of extra functionality.

We’re finally pushing through things and plan on releasing an early version of what we have later this week. Right now things are tied up working on a demo that will hopefully make an appearance over at ILUG later this week.

This has been in the works for a while now, and I’m really looking forward to getting something out there for people to play around with and give us feedback.

They dedicated the whole episode to Javascript frameworks in Domino and spent a lot of time talking about our upcoming project Ext.nd. For those who have been using the Domino YUI project on openNTF and wondering why things have been silent for so long this should help explain why.

As you’ll hear in the podcast we talk a little bit about how the project came together, who all is involved and what we hope to accomplish. I’ll certainly be posting some more information about Ext.nd and our progress as things get a little further along. For now, check out the podcast when its released (I’ve been told they’re hoping for sometime tonight) and stay tuned here for updates.

Along with the release comes a brand new site www.extjs.com, some changes to licensing, and the availability of commercial support. He’s also offering a special introductory discount for anyone who purchases through April 15. Along with the new site they’ve added some new examples and given the forums a nice updated interface.

Way to go Jack! I hope lots of companies jump on board and purchase licensing and support to help fund this great framework.

There are a few others working on it as well: Jack Ratcliff & Jake Howlett.

It seems that everyone has noticed the transfer hasn’t been completely straight-forward, so I figured I’d post my fixes to a couple of the issues that we’ve all seem to run into (dealing with the new Grid implementation)

There’s an issue with the new Connection routine not sending parameters through if you change the method to get instead of post. I wrote an event listener that attaches to the connections beforerequest event which strips off any parameters already on the URL (anything after an &) then serializes and places the parameters back onto the URL. I went through a couple rounds of tweaks and ended up with very similar code to what Jack is using for Post requests. The example above also tests out sending additional parameters through by setting the connections extraParams property.

Another issue that kept coming up was the hard-coded paging parameters to start at 0 and use “limit” as the keyword where Domino needs “count”. To fix this issue I extended Ext.PagingToolbar and wrote Ext.DominoPagingToolbar.

While still hard coded its now geared to Domino. A couple of hacks were necessary to make activePage reference the proper values.

Anyway, hope its of help to any others who may be trying to implement Ext 1.0 on a Domino system. Stay tuned for a new Domino YUI release once I get things working smoothly.

Check it out. As with any alpha release he gives some warnings saying that a lot has changed and lots of old code will break. Also he notes that not much of it has been documented yet.

Another announcement yesterday on jQuery’s blog states that Ext will now support jQuery as a base instead of YUI, users will have their pick.

jQuery is certainly a lot more lean than YUI which may lead to Domino YUI becoming Domino Ext, which perhaps better fits it anyway. Either way I’ll get cracking on the new code and try to push a new version out soon.

Seems I’m always running across new undocumented features of Notes/Domino. In a session on using Javascript Frameworks to create Domino applications they talked about &OutputFormat=JSON on ReadViewEntries and ReadDesign which is planned for Notes 8. During questioning it got out that this is already available in 7.0.2. Sure enough, I pulled up a view, tossed that on the end and got back json… wish I would have run across that sooner!
