Times are definitely changing. I have been anti-mac for as long as I can remember… I never liked the idea that you couldn’t pick/choose your hardware and that you were really stuck with everything they gave you. I even avoided iPod’s and went for other non-proprietary mp3 players. Also, for years I built all of my own machines so that I could pick out decent graphics cards and such and not have to spend a fortune for a decent setup. As things have progressed my views have definitely changed and I’m certainly not a hardcore gamer like I used to be. My first step was picking up the new iPhone, with my massive travel schedule lately I wanted to have a way to access things easily and this seemed like a good way to do it. I was totally floored, the interface all worked just as I had expected, almost every website works perfectly fine… I couldn’t ask for more at this point. Then I found myself needing a new laptop as I needed a bit more power since I wind up working while traveling a great deal, and decided to give the Macbook Pro a shot. I most certainly do not regret my decision, and have now adjusted quite well to the mac after just over a month. I picked up a copy of parallels and threw windows xp on there so I could test (and still access domino designer). After dealing with a newer laptop running Vista I’m very glad to be away from it…

Who knows, maybe my next desktop purchase will even be a mac…

  1. I know how you feel. My Mantra for years was “I don’t compute on fruit!” but lately I’ve started to become swayed. I’m eyeballing a Macbook Pro myself (I just got a new beefy Dell with Vista, that I’m not in love with. But it will be hard to justify the purchase to my wife!) and I just recommended to a co-worker that he buy a Mac desktop for his home as opposed to a new PC. I hope my friends don’t find out!! lol

  2. Aye, Macs are a much better deal than they used to be. The regular Macbook at $1099 is actually comparable to just about any PC I could price with the same components (CPU speed, video, etc.).

As long as you stay away from those “upgrades” when you’re buying one from Apple.com, though — $500 extra for 4GB of RAM? Are they insane? :P

  3. Ah good point, I did go with the 17″ Macbook pro, but I didn’t get any additional upgrades. They are a bit outrageous.

  4. @Scott – honestly Vista was one of the larger driving factors behind my change. Many things that worked fine in XP were removed or changed and caused me problems which I didn’t want to have to deal with. Also the fact that I couldn’t really revert to XP because they didn’t have wireless drivers for my laptop at the time.

  5. I’m on my second new laptop with Vista default installed. First was a Sony, this is a Dell. I don’t understand the problems people speak of… then again, I always turn off all the stupid extra bloat features first thing.

  6. I have always been a PC fan, but I have never actually tried Mac before. For a first time user which macbook will you recommend?
