Ext, Javascript, Notes/Domino, Ext.nd, Ruby on Rails

In case you didn’t notice, Ext released a new version yesterday fixing quite a number of bugs with the Ext 2.0 final release. Check out the blog entry for release notes and more information.

This also marks the first release containing code that I have contributed! :-D

  1. Rich,

I have been using Ext.nd for my apps, I’ve beeen mucking around with a few of the frameworks, but what are your thoughts on Dojo. Dojo appears to be in loads of IBM products.

  2. Hey Nick,

I actually tried to get into Dojo for quite some time before I found Ext (then YUI-Ext). Granted, Dojo has come a long way since then, but I recall being frustrated that things were so overly difficult. I know that IBM has invested heavily into Dojo and I don’t see their support for it changing anytime in the near future. The best news I have heard from this space is that while they will be providing several out-of-the-box Dojo enhancements, they will not be locking us in to using Dojo. With Designer opening up for extensions and IBM’s move to open up the rendering engines for the web, I think we’ll be in a good position to provide an alternative that will be just as easy or easier to implement. Another big benefit I see to our framework is support all the way back to Domino 6. Many people and companies do not upgrade rapidly and will not have a chance to even use IBM’s Dojo components until they move to 8.5 which could be several years in some cases.

I would gladly chat more with you on the subject if you want to drop me an email.

  3. You made some very good points, which makes me feel much more comfortable having “committed” myself to the Ext.nd\ Ext.js framework on a few projects. I just saw your post regarding v2 of Ext.nd, excellent. Can’t wait for your “surprises”.

I would like to take you up on your offer to contact you via email…don’t think you publish your email on your site…could you send me your address.

  4. Hi Rich,
I missed your ext.nd session, and I feel sad about that. Is the presentation available somewhere for download? Thanks!
